Our Mission

Roots Farm & Retreat’s Not-for-Profit exists to steward land as a space for healing, creativity, and belonging. Through accessible arts, cultural, and land-based experiences, we invite community to gather in reflection, expression, and connection, cultivating collective wellbeing in right relationship with the earth.

The Not-For-Profit

Roots Farm & Retreat’s Not for Profit creates space for connection, creativity, and collective wellbeing on 75 acres of organically stewarded land in Newington, Ontario. While the Cooperative supports farmers, the Not for Profit focuses on people, especially rural seniors, newcomers, BIPOC communities, 2SLGBTQI+ individuals, youth, and residents facing isolation.

In a region where formal mental health services are limited, we offer land based programming that helps people reduce stress, build resilience, and feel a deeper sense of . Through activities such as yoga, breathwork, mindfulness walks, creative expression workshops, and seasonal gatherings, participants reconnect with themselves, each other, and the rhythms of the land.

Our geodesic dome and Mongolian yurt provide welcoming gathering spaces designed with inclusion in mind, ensuring seniors and participants with mobility needs can participate comfortably. Together, these spaces support workshops, retreats, and community-led experiences that strengthen intergenerational bonds and foster cultural sensitivity.

Our Gathering Spaces

  • Our 12 metre geodesic dome is a light filled gathering space designed for movement, creativity, and collective experience. Large windows keep the surrounding landscape present while offering comfort in every season.

Its open circular form supports yoga, dance, workshops, and community gatherings where people move and create in rhythm with the land.

The dome was made possible through a generous contribution from the McConnell Foundation, supporting its foundation and development as an accessible, year round community hub.

  • Our 20 foot hand painted Mongolian yurt offers a warm and intimate space for reflection and small group gatherings. In cooler months, a woodstove creates a grounded and welcoming atmosphere.

The circular form and natural materials make it well suited to meditation, conversation, and contemplative practice.

The dome and yurt are available for community aligned workshops, retreats, and gatherings that reflect our values of care, creativity, and connection. Rental contributions help sustain our Not for Profit programming and keep the land accessible to the wider community.
